From recycled plastic bottles to precision-cut wall panels — PET felt has become the go-to material for architects, designers, and acoustic specifiers worldwide.

Why PET Felt Is the Material Defining Modern Acoustic Design

PET felt — manufactured from recycled polyethylene terephthalate, the same material used in plastic bottles — has quietly become one of the most specified materials in commercial interiors. Here's why.

A decade ago, acoustic treatment meant foam wedges, fabric-wrapped panels, or heavy plasterboard systems. Today, designers and architects increasingly reach for PET felt as their material of choice — and for good reason.

Aesthetics Without Compromise

PET felt panels offer something that traditional acoustic materials couldn't: genuine design flexibility. Available in a wide palette of colours, CNC-cut into custom shapes, and suitable for walls, ceilings, furniture screens, and bespoke installations, PET felt can be a functional acoustic element and a visual feature simultaneously.

Performance You Can Certify

Modern PET felt panels achieve NRC values of up to 0.90 depending on thickness and configuration. They can be tested and certified to EN 13501-1 and ASTM E84 for fire performance, ISO 354 and ASTM C423 for acoustic absorption, and OEKO-TEX for chemical safety. This certification stack is increasingly required on commercial, education, and healthcare projects.

Sustainability Built In

Each square metre of FELTBAY PET felt panel contains the equivalent of dozens of recycled plastic bottles. The manufacturing process is low-VOC, the material is free from harmful chemicals, and it contributes to LEED and WELL credits on qualifying projects. Material certifications including OEKO-TEX and the Global Recycled Standard (GRS) are available to support green building documentation.

The UAE Advantage: A Global Export Hub

FELTBAY manufactures PET felt panels in the UAE — a strategic location at the crossroads of Europe, Asia, and Africa. The UAE's world-class logistics infrastructure, including major sea ports and air freight hubs, positions us to serve international markets with competitive lead times. For projects across the MENA region, this means shorter delivery windows, regional compliance knowledge, and direct technical support. For markets in Europe, Scandinavia, and North America, it means a reliable manufacturing partner with efficient export routes and the ability to handle bespoke orders at scale — a meaningful differentiator compared to panels shipped from the Far East.
